Here in Srilanka, the streets were lit with colored paper lanterns, giant pandols were erected and dansals (free food stalls) were in abundant making sure no one went hungry or unhappy. This year some innovative dansals such as the “free wifi dansal”, “free haircut dansal” were also introduced. Here are some pictures for you to experience the Vesek as celebrated by Srilankans.

  1. What a wonderfully festive occasion, Suganiya, and your photos are lovely. It’s certainly a colourful celebration. I’m amazed that you have all those free stalls. It sounds like a great idea, but I just wondered who pays for all the things given away. There must be some incredibly generous people in Srilanka. Thank you for sharing this intereting post! πŸ™‚

    1. We collect funds from all, regardless of whether your a stranger or not. Everyone is incredibly helpful during this period and one of the best festivals here. Glad you liked the pics πŸ™‚ If you ever visit Sri Lanka come during this festival πŸ™‚

      1. I would love to visit Sri Lanka! But, like everything else in life, It would cost a lot of pennies and I’d need to get saving up! For now, your lovely posts will have to suffice. πŸ™‚
